PROJECT - LASERCUT CHIPBOARD CLOCK

Incorporating the clock movements from an IKEA Rusch clock, prepare lasercut a flat pattern that will fold into a new clock design.

  1. Adobe Illustrator file used for developing design
  2. AutoCAD DXF file export used in submitting to the DAAP RPC Submission system
  3. Digital photos of finished design with clock movements integrated

PROJECT - DEFORMED AND UNDEFORMED SOAP BAR

Project demonstrates simple use of surface skins across many profiles.  Use of layers, symmetry, construction geometry are practiced.  All surfaces get oriented in a Z up direction for milling in Delcam PowerMill.

The final deliverables for this project are as follows:

  1. Alias wire file containing deformed and underformed soap bar
  2. IGES file export prepared from Alias for DelCAM PowerMill
  3. PowerMill Project folder folder zipped to single zip file archive.

PROJECT - BOTTLE WORKFLOW SURFACE TO SHELL TO MESH

Project demonstrated multiple tools used in tandem: revolves, seeps, surface fillets with curve tangent projections.  After single membrane shell stitch is developed 3d additive printing exports are made.

The final deliverables for this project are as follows:

  1. Alias wire file containing surface layer, shell object, and mesh tesselation.
  2. STL file export prepared from Alias for Zprint.
  3. ZBD file export from Zprint.

PROJECT - PARAMETRIC BOX

Parametrically modeled box with 5 solid bodies driven by global variables.

This project demonstrates various concepts of parametric design.  Using a single part with multiple solid bodies, generate a master sketch driving the over all aspect of the design.  The parameters will be global variables in solidworks that drive the following dimensions: 

  • box_width
  • box_height
  • box_depth
  • material_thickness
  • shelf_depth

After finishing the master multiple bodied part, save each body as a separate linked part.  Then generate a part representing a 96inch x 48inch piece of material.  Using distance mates, make a solidworks assembly of the layout.

The final deliverables for this project are as follows:

  1. Variable driven solidworks part file containing individual solid bodies.
  2. Individual solidworks part files from each solid body
  3. Solidworks assembly of the CNC board layout for milling
  4. IGES file export used for CNC milling operations.
